48-year-old Vishnu Dureddy from Georgia is suffering from FSGS (Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis) a disease in which scar tissue develops on the glomeruli, the small parts of the kidneys that filter waste from the blood. FSGS can be caused by a variety of conditions. FSGS is a rare hereditary condition that affects seven in 1 million people. Vishnu was asymptomatic for many years with medication but last year his creatinine levels skyrocketed, putting him on emergency dialysis. He lost his father to this disease last year. In order to survive Vishnu needs a living kidney transplant. His blood type is O and based on his blood type, the wait list is five to eight years.
