Rachael Hanna—a devoted single mother from Mishawaka, Indiana, whose life and health are hanging in the balance. Rachael is the mother of four beautiful children, including her youngest who was recently diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Amid caring for her family, she is now fighting for her own life.
Rachael suffers from polycystic kidney disease and has progressed to end-stage renal disease, requiring nine hours of dialysis every night just to stay alive. Her health began to decline following her last pregnancy, and despite her strength and determination, the toll on her body has become overwhelming.
Her children are her world, but dialysis has left her constantly exhausted, struggling to keep up with daily life. What she needs most right now is a living kidney donor—someone with Type A or O blood—to give her a second chance at life and motherhood. Living donation offers her the best chance for a healthier kidney and a longer, fuller life.
After years of waiting, Rachael has finally reached the top of the UNOS transplant list, and her surgery is scheduled to take place at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis. She will need to stay in Indianapolis for up to a month after the transplant, which adds to the immense emotional and financial burden—including expenses for travel, accommodations, food, and post-operative care.
