Kellie Terry of Indianapolis has been waiting on the national kidney transplant list since 2022. Despite facing kidney disease brought on by hypertension, she has remained strong—managing her health, working full-time, and being there for her children and grandchildren.
Terry battled hypertension early in her life, which led to a kidney disease diagnosis in 2021. Since then she’s been doing peritoneal dialysis which lets her live a relatively normal daily life. Recently, she had to return to in-clinic dialysis after a serious infection. She’s now back to spending hours each week at the clinic, fighting to stay well while still holding on to hope.
Kellie’s story is far too common, especially in the Black community, where kidney disease and high blood pressure are more prevalent, and wait times for transplants are often longer.
