Joanna Collins, a warm-hearted, vibrant 49-year-old woman from Pinellas County, is in urgent need of a living kidney donor — and she’s turning to the kindness of strangers to help save her life.
Diagnosed with Alport syndrome, a rare genetic kidney disease, Joanna’s kidney function has dropped drastically to just 12%, while a healthy person her age would typically have 80%. She’s now in stage 4 kidney failure and will soon begin dialysis unless a matching donor is found.
Joanna has exhausted every family and friend option — more than 40 people have been tested. But being adopted as an infant, her biological match pool is limited. So now, her family and community have launched the “Hero 4 Jo” campaign, using billboards, flyers, business cards, social media, and even a mobile billboard — all to find someone willing to say yes to donating the gift of life.
