2-years-old toddler Selena Pacheco has stage 5 chronic kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is when the kidneys have become damaged over time and have a hard time doing all their important jobs. CKD also increases the risk of other health problems like heart disease and stroke. Developing CKD is usually a very slow process with very few symptoms at first. By the time she celebrated her 2nd birthday, she had six surgeries. Selena has been on dialysis for the majority of her life and after 20 months of dialysis, the baby girl needs a new kidney from a living donor by the end of the year to live.
